I’ve got another 20 miler today. I’ve been listening to the same playlists for months, so it was time to build a new one. Since my run will start off easy for 5 miles and then work up to slightly below marathon effort for 15 (gulp), I wanted a mix that reflected that pattern.
There’s a lot of uptempo stuff in here, but I’ve thrown in a calmer tune every so often to remind myself to relax when I’m running fast. I find that if I listen to too much relaxing music while running fast, my mind drifts and I get complacent (and I slow down). There will be none of that nonsense today.
Here’s what I’ll be serenading myself with this morning.

Your mention of marathon effort reminds me that your MP is in the neighborhood of 7:00 min/mile. When people ask me how fast CIM is, I usually say 5 seconds per mile or 2+ minutes, compared to a flat course. That’s probably conservative. If you are in 7:00 shape, and conditions are good (not raining), then that little boost could put a sub-3:00 in your grasp.
But no pressure or anything!
Thanks, Jim. I’m actually doubtful that I’m in shape for 7:00 per mile, since my recent tempo efforts have been in the7:10-7:15 range. But my understanding of CIM is that it is prone to providing PRs.
I don’t have a solid time/pace goal yet. I’ve a couple more workouts and I’ll rely on Coach Kevin to read the tea leaves and prognosticate. I will say that given the setbacks this year I’d be happy with anything under 3:10. The closer to 3:00, the better. But I’m resigned to the likely possibility that sub-3:00 will probably be a 2010 event.
I’ll be there, shooting for 3:15. I’ll keep an eye out for you at the start.
Jim — that’s great! I’ll look for you too. And if I don’t see you, I hope you have a great race and full cooperation from your Achilles tendon. 😉
